Group CFNR, a subsidiary of ATIC Services, has developed know-how all along this logistics chain. Its presence in most part of the wider Rhine basin represents a valuable asset for the Group: Basle, Mulhouse, Strasbourg, Ottmarsheim, Karlsruhe, Kehl, Ludwigshafen, Duisburg, Charleroi, Rotterdam, Antwerp, Liege, Dillingen, Thionville, Nancy, Metz, Dunkirk, Brussels, Lille.
Group CFNR provides port handling services in Dillingen, Thionville, Nancy, Brussels, Karlsruhe directly and uses sub-contractors in the other ports. CFNR works also at utilizing, in addition to its purely inland waterways capacities, all railway infrastructure in place in its ports.
CFNR transports not only bulk cargo for the heavy industry and utility sectors (ores, coals, coke), but also semi-finished products, biomass, cereals, other miscellaneous bulk cargoes, as well as containers
The Group CFNR transports annually 19 Mt and handles 4.7 Mt. In its own name SOMEF, a CFNR subsidiary, transports and handles respectively 7.5 Mt and 2.5 Mt of bulk cargo and finished products.
Historically, CFNR has always been strongly present in the Alsace, Lorraine and Saar region as well as in the ARA range (Antwerp and Amsterdam). The acquisition of SOMEF, located close to Liege (Belgium) has given CFNR a European dimension and it offers now fully integrated inland waterways logistics.
Operating primarily from its main site in Liege/Monsin, SOMEF is a major player in intermodal waterways/rail/road solutions. It provides in particular a sea to inland waterway transport system for various European countries that offers clear advantages: it avoids any transshipments which can be particularly costly, it allows also for greater flexibility and reliability as any of the constraints experienced at large deep sea ports are avoided.
Lately, the river container traffic has increased dramatically; CFNR is leading the way in Alsace, having invested in a container transport capacity of 350 TEUs.
